Will Truitt grew up in Salisbury, Maryland, and graduated from Wicomico High School in 1966. After completing a B. A. Degree in Philosophy in 1972 at the University of Maryland, College Park he attended the Fairfield University Graduate School of Corporate and Political Communications in 1973 and 1974.
Upon leaving Fairfield University, Will began working with Denis Cooper restoring fine grand pianos at his workshop in Monroe, Connecticut. He also worked for 2 years with Denis at Campbell’s Music, the largest piano dealer in the metropolitan Washington, D. C. area in the mid 70’s. Campbell’s Music was the exclusive Steinway dealer, and housed the Steinway Concert & Artist Department, where Will spent some time working under the tutelage of the concert technician, Percy Aycock.
Will moved to New Hampshire in 1981 and established his own piano service and rebuilding business. He joined the Piano Technicians Guild and became an RPT (Registered Piano Technician), which is the highest level of certification within the Guild. Since then, he has been a very active member of the New Hampshire Chapter of PTG, serving in various offices and developing class programs for the New Hampshire PTG Regional Seminars on several occasions.
The Guild continues to be an extraordinary resource for ongoing development for Will. A lifelong learner, he retains an active curiosity about the instrument which he has spent most of his working life restoring, always striving to make his next restoration better than the last.
A skier for the past 40 years, Will spends his winter weekends and holidays working as a PSIA certified ski instructor at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch, showing skiers of all levels how much fun skiing can be. Typical Clientele:
